Oracle Capital Charitable Foundation supports Global Adventure Plus

“Only through active involvement in improving the lives of others can people enrich their own lives”.This simple but powerful philosophy is at the heart of Oracle Capital Group’s charitable ventures, and is the basis of the Oracle Capital Charitable Foundation.

It is a philosophy shared by Global Adventure Plus (GAP), the latest charity to be supported by our Foundation. GAP helps Britain’s ex-servicemen and women reintegrate with civilian life after serving their country in the army. It organises group challenges, involving adventure, teamwork and camaraderie, which help stimulate, motivate and re-engage soldiers who may have lost their way since leaving the job they knew and loved.

GAP was founded by Robert Lawrence, a former British Army officer who fought and was severely wounded in the Falklands War. He spent a year in a wheelchair and was almost totally paralyzed, with doctors telling him he would never walk again. Against the odds he recovered, and was awarded the Military Cross for bravery. An account of his experiences during and after the war was later adapted into the television play Tumbledown.

“In the army, everything is black and white, right or wrong,” explains Robert. “Civilian home life is nothing like that. Readjusting can be tough. GAP helps to rekindle enthusiasm for life by using the many skills learnt in the military, while also challenging people to learn new skills”.
