Oracle Capital Charitable Foundation co-sponsors Historic Art Exhibition

Oracle Capital Charitable is proud to announce the launching of “Houghton Revisited  – Masterpieces of the Walpole Collection”.  The Foundation’s Chairman, the Earl of Clanwilliam, is coordinating this historic art exhibition at Houghton Hall in Norfolk, home of the Marquis of Cholmondeley.   The Exhibition opens on May 17, 2013 and will run until September 29, 2013.

The exhibition presents the Walpole Collection – a celebrated collection of old master paintings.  Sir Robert Walpole, the original owner of the collection, was England’s First Prime Minister.  The collection, which includes works by Van Dyck, Poussin, Rubens, Rembrandt, Velazquez, Murillo, and other masters was sold to Catherine the Great of Russia in 1779 and currently the works belong to the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg and the The Pushkin Fine Arts Museum.  “Houghton Revisited” will bring these great works back to their original home for the first time in over two centuries.

Nicholas Penny, the director of the National Gallery, and Charles Cator, chairman of Christie’s have joined the exhibition’s honorary committee.

“The Foundation is very excited to be co-sponsoring this historic art exhibition as part of its well-known and ongoing support for the arts, along with its other extensive network of grants to support education, health services and social development projects,” says Lord Clanwilliam.

On March 25, there was a press conference in the Italian courtyard of the Pushkin Fine Arts Museum which will be attended by Lordy Cholmondeley, owner of Houghton Hall, Alexis Ashot, Old Masters Specialist from Christie’s, Dr. Thierry Morel, chief curator of “Houghton Revisited”, Irina Antonova, director of the Pushkin Fine Arts Museum.

And additional launch and press conference will be held in St. Petersburg on March 27th at the Hermitage Museum.
