Amendment to Swiss-Russian DTA ratified

On November 15, Vladimir Putin signed the ratification of the Amendment to the Double Taxation agreement between the Russian Federation and the Swiss Confederation.

The amendments clarify the rules regarding the exchange of information between the Russian and Swiss tax authorities. Also, the taxation of particular types of dividends has been updated. The amendments contain an administrative assistance clause in accordance with international standards. Finally, provisions are put in place which prevent the illegal tax reduction schemes.

The original Protocol was signed in September of 2011. The amendments will take effect on January 1, 2013.
