UK Home to Over 10,000 UHNWIs

Over 10,000 ultra-high net worth individuals (UHNWIs) have made their home in the United Kingdom, according to research published this week. The definition to qualify as UHNWI is to have wealth of at least £20m (or $30m), measured not only in terms of money but in business interests, investments and property, though not counting the main residence.

INVESTOR VISAS BRING UK £700M IN 12 MONTHS

There were 735 applications for UK Investor, or Tier 1, Visas in the 12 months to June 2014, figures released by the Home Office show. That represents a 40% increase on the previous year. The single largest national group was from China, with 295 successful applications.

UK AUTUMN STATEMENT: EXPENSIVE HOUSES TO COST MORE

The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Britain’s Minister for the Economy, has introduced a radical change to the system of taxation applied when buying residential property in the UK. The move comes as part of the so-called “Autumn Statement”, in effect a mini-Budget announced midway between annual budgets. This Autumn Statement is seen as being especially significant, as the next General Election in the UK is due in May next year.

WEALTHY CHINESE WANT TO EDUCATE CHILDREN ABROAD

Eighty per cent of wealthy Chinese families want their children to study abroad, according to the renowned Hurun Report. The USA is the number one destination for higher education for Chinese children, followed by the UK. Other Western countries favoured reflect the fact that the English language is a key factor for many when choosing where to send their children: Australia, Canada and New Zealand are all popular. In Europe, Switzerland and France are also on the list.

EU TAX INFORMATION DEAL ENDS “BANK SECRECY”
