Oracle Capital Group Chairman Leads Global Economy Briefing

Financial services’ professionals gathered for a breakfast briefing at London’s prestigious Carlton Club on 16 October to take part in a discussion led by Martin Graham, Chairman of Oracle Capital Group. The briefing was aimed particularly at High Net Worth Individuals (HNWIs) and those who manage their assets, and was organised by Wealth Briefing. Mr Graham addressed the subject of The Global Economic Outlook: Recoupling Growth and Inflation.

Mr Graham was director of markets and chairman of AIM at the London Stock Exchange for six years, where he was responsible for over $500m of revenues and 75 per cent of group profits. He led the exchange’s growth strategy, resulting in a fivefold increase in market size between 2003 and 2008. In addition he was instrumental in building the company’s international franchise. He sits on a number of boards, including the Moscow Stock Exchange.

Mr Graham was followed by three other speakers: Jonathan Bell, Partner and Chief Investment Officer at Stanhope Capital, and the author of Start With The Map The Right Way Up, an introduction to investment; Torgeir Høien, Portfolio Manager at SKAGEN Tellus; and Silvana Tenreyro, Professor in Economics at the London School of Economics.

The speakers’ presentations looked at where best to allocate assets; how to gauge confidence levels; and what financial professionals should do to help themselves make the right decisions for their clients. They warned that, despite signs of economic recovery gradually being seen in advanced economies, the global picture is not looking so encouraging.

The presentations were followed by a lively and interesting discussion. Participants commented on how useful the briefing was.
